2020 Candidate Coming For Guns

After announcing her bid for presidency, Sen. Kamala Harris used her first town hall appearance to call for stricter gun control.

Claiming that there was no reasonpeople in a “civil society” should have semi-automatic “assault weapons.”

When asked what her specific gun policies might include, Harris offered, “Something like universal background checks.” Right after she stated that “assault weapons” could “kill babies and police officers.”

Although that failed to compare with one of her more grisly proposals. Harris suggested that legislators be forced to view pictures of children killed by guns as a precursor to any vote on gun control legislation. She even admitted how poorly this sounded as she recounted the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.

“20 six and seven-year-old babies were massacred in Connecticut. They failed to act. Here’s what I think. I think that somebody should have required, and this is going to sound very harsh, I think somebody should have required all those members of Congress to go in a room — a locked room, no press, nobody else — and look at the autopsy photographs of those babies. And then you vote your conscience. This has become a political issue. This has become a political issue, and there is no reason why we cannot have reasonable gun safety laws in this country.”

While graphic in her use of imagery, Harris isn’t nearly so adept at using the actual facts. Otherwise she would have noted how the shooter in that particular massacre stole the firearms used. Something a background check would not have prevented.
