The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency is the largest entity in the Department of Homeland Security, and they’ve recently announced their plans for future equipment.

The CBP has announced that it will award an $85 million contract to major gun manufacturer Glock in order to supply officers with the “next generation standard duty handgun.”

Currently officers patrolling the border have been issued Heckler & Koch P-2000 pistols in .40 caliber. That has been the standard since 2004. While the announcement made in a press release didn’t specify what models would be issued, it was indicated that the caliber would change to 9mm.

“This contract provides CBP law enforcement personnel the latest in handgun technology and represents our commitment to providing the highest quality use-of-force tools and equipment to our law enforcement personnel who defend America’s frontline every day,” Deputy Commissioner Robert E. Perez said in the statement.
