Facebook Bans Gun Pages

As of March 5, Facebook has put new policies in place that ban gun-themed fan pages.

The changes come after Mayors Against Illegal Guns and the Moms Demand Action civic group put pressure on Facebook to change their policies about the discussion of guns.

Although it is impossible to complete a financial transaction on Facebook, proponents of the policy changes argue that Facebook was becoming a marketplace for guns — a way for sellers and buyers to connect.

According to Joshua Cook:

Mayors Against Illegal Guns was co-founded by former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, along with Boston’s former mayor, Thomas Menino, in 2006. More than 1,100 mayors belong to the group.

The other group, Moms Demand Action, had a petition on Change.org to prohibit gun sales on Facebook and Facebook-owned Instagram. It reached over 94,000 signatures.

Isn’t it interesting how liberals want to censor the discussion of guns, but would never suggest censoring gay pride fan pages? Liberals are always against censorship… except when they aren’t.

And as we have seen in recent years, big companies like Facebook and Google have been all too eager to impose liberal-minded policies on their users.

Sadly, this isn’t just a 2nd Amendment issue; it is also a 1st Amendment issue. What kind of country are we becoming where even talking about guns is banned in certain places?

Few people care to ask these questions. Even fewer answer them.
