In West Virginia an attempted kidnapping of a 5-year old girl was thwarted when the girl’s mother took action.

Mohamed Fathy Hussein Zayan, a 54-year old from Alexandria, Egypt, was prowling for victims at the Huntington Mall in Barboursville, WV when he thought he had found the perfect target.

In the mall’s Old Navy location, Zayan tried to destroy a family when he “grabbed the child by the hair and attempted to pull her away,” according to WYMT.

However he hardly had time to take a step before the child’s mother had him looking down the business end of a barrel.

WYMT shared that, “police say the mother then pulled out a handgun and told the suspect to let go of the child. The mother told police the man then let go of the girl and ran out of the store into the mall.”

Zayan was quickly apprehended nearby at the food court.

WYMT additionally reports that a magistrate has revoked Zayan’s passport, he faces felony charges of attempted abduction and his bond is set at $200,000.

This story could have been written as a tragedy, but because this mother had the presence of mind to carry, she’ll be tucking her daughter safely into bed at home tonight.
