Looking to crack down on illegal immigration, President Trump is expected to announce a new member being appointed to the Department of Homeland Security.

A White House official speaking on condition of anonymity shared that President Trump will appoint Ken Cuccinelli to the Department of Homeland Security.

Cuccinelli has been very vocal about his opposition to illegal immigration and it is believed that his appointment will be the first in a series of hires that should lead to the “tougher direction” President Trump said he wanted the Department to head in.

The move has raised some questions as Cuccinelli was also vocally opposed to Trump’s nomination in 2016.

Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform shared that while it Cuccinelli’s appointment will be “hard to prejudge how this will all work,” that the candidate is qualified and “certainly checks all the boxes.”
