President Donald Trump had already announced who he had intended to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom and has now fulfilled that claim.

Trump gave the prestigious award to athlete and professional golfer Tiger Woods in honor of his April 14 win at the Masters Tournament.

This makes Woods the youngest pro golfer to win the award at the age of 43. He will join Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Charlie Sifford who have been honored before him.

“He’s a great guy,” Trump said of Woods at the ceremony. “He introduced countless new people to the sport of golf, from every background and walk of life. …Tiger Woods is a global symbol of American excellence, devotion and drive.”

Trump shared that he believed Woods was “a true legend.”

Saying a few words Woods shared, “You’ve seen the good and the bad the highs and the lows, and I wouldn’t be here without your help.”

“You guys have meant so much to me in my life. I’ve battled and I’ve tried to hang in there and I’ve tried to come back and play a great game of golf again,” he added.
